Professional Organizations
George
Bernard Shaw is reputed to have said that if you laid all of the world's
economists end to end you still couldn't reach a conclusion. In an apparent
attempt to prove the truth of this adage, economists have tended to gather
to discuss issues and perhaps reach a conclusion of some sort. A short
list of those organizations to which economists feel themselves drawn
is listed below with links to their respective organizations where those
are available.

Academic Societies and Associations
Economists usually join a national organization of economists (such as
the Canadian Economics Association), and more narrowly focused organizations
which provide journals and conferences for specialists in their own field
of study. They may also attend the meetings of one of the international
(or regional) economics associations. As students become familiar with
journals in economics, and develop an interest in certain sub-fields,
they may want to check out the resources that these organizations provide
both online, and through membership and participation in conferences.
